Eastbound - Florida 50 to Interstate 4

Florida 408 Toll west
The first exit along Florida 408 Toll westbound is that of the partial-cloverleaf interchange with Rouse Road (Exit 20). A half-diamond interchange joins Florida 408 Toll eastbound with Alafaya Trail at Exit 21. Beyond Exit 20 is the Dean main line Toll Plaza, the first in a series of main line plazas along the East-West Expressway. All passenger vehicles are levied a 50 cent toll at the first plaza. Photo taken 11/04/06.

Passing over Kehoe Boulevard, large guide signs advise motorists of the Dean main line Toll Plaza configuration. High-speed lanes travel to the left for SunPass account holders while all cash-paying customers must depart the freeway mainline for attended booths. Shortly west of the toll barrier is the Exit 19 diamond interchange with Dean Road. Dean Road provides a north-south arterial through suburbs associated with unincorporated areas of Orange County. The arterial ends at Florida 426 (Oviedo Road) across the Seminole County line. Photo taken 11/04/06.

Motorists destined for other area through routes including Valencia College Lane or Econlockhatchee Trail should use Dean Road as the next local exit does not exist until Goldenrod Road (Exit 16). Three-quarters of a mile east of the directional-cloverleaf interchange with Florida 417 Toll (Exit 18). Florida 417 Toll (Central Florida Greeneway) travels north to Oviedo, Winter Springs, Lake Mary, and Sanford in Seminole County. Econlockhatchee Trail passes over Florida 408 Toll westbound ahead of the Exit 33 off-ramp to Florida 417 (Central Florida Greeneway). All traffic bound for Central Florida Greeneway departs in unison at Exit 33. Interests to Orlando International Airport (MCO) should use Florida 417 Toll south seven miles to junction Florida 528 Toll (Beachline Expressway) or remain on the Greeneway 16 miles to the airport South Access Road. Exit 16 departs Florida 408 Toll westbound for Florida 551 (Goldenrod Road). Goldenrod Road carries Florida 551 south to its end at junction Florida 15 (Narcoosee Road). Beyond that intersection, Goldenrod Road continues south to Lee Vista Boulevard and junction Florida 528 (Beachline Expressway) as a tolled arterial. Westbound travelers enter the city limits of Orlando beyond the Cosmos Drive underpass. The next three interchanges serve east Orlando starting with Florida 436 (Semoran Boulevard). Florida 436 travels overall between Florida 528 Toll (Beachline Expressway) at the Airport Access Road interchange and U.S. 441 (Orange Blossom Trail) at Apopka. Locally the state highway serves the Azalea Park neighborhood at Lake Barton. Photo taken 11/04/06.
A partial-cloverleaf interchange joins Florida 436 (Semoran Boulevard) with Florida 408 Toll at Exit 14. The westbound off-ramp utilizes a portion of Camelia Drive. Florida 436 north serves Baldwin Park and Winter Park before crossing into the Seminole County line at Aloma and Goldenrod. Construction commenced in Summer 2006 as part of the overall $600-million East-West Expressway expansion project to rebuilt the Holland East main line Toll Plaza. At stake is the upgrading of the existing toll-plaza to add inner high-speed SunPass lanes segregated from the cash-paying lanes on the outside. The current toll plaza resides along Florida 408 Toll between the Andes Avenue under crossing and Lake Underhill. Photos taken 11/04/06.
The next westbound departure point from Florida 408 Toll exists at Exit 12B (Crystal Lake Road). A partial "Y" interchange brings additional drivers onto the East-West Expressway from Florida 15 (South Conway Road) at Exit 13. Florida 15 turns west onto Lake Underhill Road from South Conway Road to the one-way street couplet of South Street (west) and Anderson Street (east), frontage streets of the East-West Expressway. Exit 12B descends from Florida 408 Toll westbound onto South Street (Florida 15) ahead of its intersection with Crystal Lake Drive. Florida 526 follows Crystal Lake Drive north to Robinson Street. Continuing west, Florida 408 Toll approaches the Exit 11B ramp to Mills Avenue (Florida 15). Florida 15 turns northward onto Mills Avenue from South and Anderson Streets at the Mills Avenue three-quarter diamond interchange. Photo taken 11/04/06.
The next three interchanges serve central Orlando and the downtown area. Mills Avenue provides connections to Central Boulevard and Florida 526 (Robinson Street) west to downtown. Florida 15 splits around Lake Lawsonia via Brown Avenue (north) and Thornton Avenue (south), both of which are brick streets, between South Street and Central Boulevard. Photo taken 11/04/06.

Exit 11B leaves Florida 408 Toll westbound onto South Street (Florida 15 north) at its intersection with Mills Avenue. South and Anderson Streets continue to shadow the East-West Expressway westward to Rosalind Avenue (Florida 527 north). Exit 11A provides the most direct route into downtown Orlando from Florida 408 Toll westbound. Interests to Church Street Station should use South Street west from Exit 11A. Rosalind Avenue otherwise carries Florida 527 northbound from its split with Orange Avenue at Lake Lucerne toward junction U.S. 17-92 & Florida 50 (Colonial Drive). Photo taken 12/29/05.

Exit 11A consists of a half-diamond interchange utilizing the parallel frontage streets (South & Anderson Streets) to Rosalind Avenue. Florida 527 follows the one-way street couplet of Rosaland (north) and Orange (south) Avenues through downtown. Westbound at the Exit 11A ramp departure for Rosalind Avenue and Downtown Orlando. Florida 527 follows Orange Avenue south from Lake Lucerne to Edgewood, Belle Isle, and Pine Castle. There are no westbound on-ramps in this vicinity due to the closing of the Mills Avenue on-ramp. Interstate 4 and Florida 408 Toll meet via a pair of trumpet interchanges and their associated access road at Exit 10A. This configuration will change over the next several years starting with the building of a new direct flyover ramp between Florida 408 Toll west onto Interstate 4 east. All traffic bound for Interstate 4 departs via Exit 10A from Florida 408 Toll west. Interstate 4 joins downtown Orlando with the resort areas to the south and Sanford to the north. Overall the freeway spans the Florida Peninsula between Tampa and Daytona Beach. Aforementioned construction will replace the existing trumpet to trumpet interchange connection with a high-speed stack interchange. New flyover ramps joining westbound Florida 408 Toll to eastbound Interstate 4 and eastbound Florida 408 Toll and eastbound Interstate 4 should be completed by Spring 2009. Photo taken 12/19/03.
