U.S. Highway 52

U.S. 52 north
One-mile diagrammatical overhead for the pending split of U.S. 52 northbound with Interstate 74 west (Exit 140). This assembly is situated just south of the Armstrong Road overpass, six miles southeast of Mount Airy (pop. 8,484). Photo taken 10/05/01.
12 miles separate the U.S. 52 Exit 140 trumpet interchange with Interstate 77. Interstate 74 provides a direction connection between the two freeways. At Exit 101 of Interstate 77, Interstate 74 merges onto northbound, traveling in tandem with Interstate 77 to the Virginia state line. Photo taken 10/05/01.
Interstate 74 westbound departs U.S. 52 northbound. The east-west freeway sees five interchanges within the Mount Airy vicinity. They are with North Carolina 89 (Exit 6), Red Brush Road (Exit 9), U.S. 601 (Exit 11), U.S. 601 Business (Exit 12), and Park Drive (Exit 13). The U.S. 52 freeway continues a short distance to Holly Springs Road. There the highway becomes an at-grade facility through to Mount Airy. Photo taken 10/05/01.
